Week One: Hope

A Bible verse for each day of the first week of Advent

They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on eagles’ wings.
They will run and not grow weary
walk and not grow faint.
Isaiah 41:31

“For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future full of hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

“This hope we have as an anchor  of the soul, sure and firm.”
Hebrews 6:19

“May the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13

“Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.”
Romans 12:12

“I wait for the Lord
my soul waits,
and I hope for his word.”
Psalm 130:5

“Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”
Romans 5:5

Some ideas for how to use these verses during this first week of Advent:
~ have students write them in their Bible journals- this would also be great practice for looking up verses in the Bible.
~ use these as an opening prayer, or in between verses of O Come O Come Emmanuel for a mini prayer service.
~Ask students to say which is their favorite and why, or let them choose their own favorite verses about hope.
